The Candle
In its bowl The candle flame sputtered The wick was not drawing enough Down went the flame burrowing down into itself Till only a spot of fire remained I waited for the smoke tendril That signals the end And then the wick found the wax Deep somewhere in the dark The gold vein in the rock And the flame leapt up
