A single drop of rain goes down and moves a single leaf — silent gossip exchanged.

A chip of the sky fallen through — I look up to see plaster loosened from the firmament.

The light goes from the room, leaving it dark — only the windows keep the light.

The lips pursed, the tongue rivuletted — the evening lengthened, the dusk delayed.

Shadows in water of palaces and forts, mighty with history, disturbed at the touch of a bird's beak.

The black butterfly alighted, folded its wings — the tree shivered.

Down went the flame, burrowing down into itself — till only a spot of fire remained.

In this the hot breath of black iron holes, of a smallpox summer — I found you, coconut water, milk and flowing.

Down at the crematorium there is a grey metal box — where I burnt my father, there the torch is transferred.
